A defamation lawsuit is likely to cost you more that what you would recover for the damages.

Can I sue a coworker straight for libel. She has been spreading ill (lies) about me to other colleagues in the office. She has been doing such now for years and now I just want to teach her a lesson. I want to sue her but I don’t know ow to go about it. She is in the management but not my direct manager.

A defamation lawsuit is likely to cost you more that what you would recover for the damages. My best advice would be to gather some evidence against her and report to the HR department. That might help to teach her a lesson.
