Garnishments from bank accounts are done fast. Your wages will be garnished later.

my ex failed to cough up the alimony payments, even after the 30 days notice. I charged him with contempt and the court allowed garnishment for collection. What I wanted to know is, how long the process is going to take and how soon garnishment can start? Which garnishment goes first - the bank levies or from the wages?

Bank levies are charged first. You possible can't take a share of the wages and then stretch out your hands towards the bank savings as well.

Though, employers and banks are supposed to give prompt response once they are served, the entire process with the serving judgement, submitting documents may take around 3-4 weeks. Garnishments from bank accounts are usually done first and then the wages.
