Collection agency calling me for a debt that I don't owe

I used to work for a bar in Sacramento, CA and was asked to help another bar owned by the same person. I was there for around 6 months and all my living expenses we paid by the owner. Now as soon as I returned to my place, I have started receiving a phone call regarding the apartment bill that has not been paid as of now. The owner was supposed to pay the bill which is $12000. Somehow my name has appeared on the lease document and now the collection agency is continuously threatening me to ruin my credit. What should I do?

Did you sign the lease document? Having your name in the lease document and signing the lease as tenant are completely different things. You need to review the lease document carefully and if you find any discrepancy, you may even sue your employee.
