receiving calls and e-mails from unknown debt collector. they don't have a valid address, and are just sending me a PO box number. should I send a DV letter? The debt is an old one. will disputing revive the SOL?

Well, as you can see, old debts can still be collected. Obviously, you should send the DV letter. How else would you know whether or not they own the debt? Communicate with the PO box number only.

Now the question is, what you want to do about the account? If the collector really owns it, they can continue with the collection attempts. But you'll have the excuse of SOL expiry and wouldn't need to pay. Sooner or later, the account will drop off from your report.

You can also settle if you want. But make payments only when you're sure about what you want to do, and only after they prove they're the owners. Since, making any payment would revive the SOL.

You can go ahead with the validation. And, disputing doesn't restart SOl. Just don't make any payments.
