Someone posing as a debt collector called my fiancé’s father and told that it was regarding some legal matter and when my fiancé’s father asked for more details, they just went furious and cursed him badly. I also found many similar cases where co-workers or neighbors have been called. How can I stop these?

Do you have any evidence that they badly cursed your fiancé’s father? If you have any evidence (anything recorded digitally), you can sue them rather having a second thought.

Ask your fiancé’s father to tell them without any hesitation that they are violating the fair debt collection act. Also tell them that if they further do this, you are going to take legal action against them.

This is undoubtedly a violation of the FDCPA. You should immediately talk to a consumer attorney in your vicinity and if possible, record what the collector says over phone as potential proof to support your case.
