I had a $1200 payday loan for which I have already paid $1500. Now they say that whatever I have been paying this long was only the interest. Now, they have asked to pay at least half of the principal amount by this week, or I will be arrested by the sheriff department. Sounded like a threat to me. Can anything be done?

You're right. Threats are illegal, and arrests are highly unlikely unless there's a violation of a court order. It's in violation of the FDCPA. Save records of the threats, and consult a consumer protection attorney with all the proof.
