Ok I do have some debts and recently a collection agency has called me to pay off the amount by paying $163 a month for six months. I’m not sure if I can come up with such numbers each month. What I think I’m more comfortable with $100 a month. So should I send what I can afford?

Even though a collection agency has taken over your debts, you can still reach out the bank where your account is and make your payments. You can even negotiate with them by visiting the branch. If they don’t accept the monthly amount you’re comfortable with, then consult a debt settlement company as these companies are experienced and efficient enough to deal with such problems.

Have you validated the debt? If you've not, first go for it. I was wondering how it's possible to pay less without informing the collection agency! Have they agreed to receive that amount, which you can afford? Reach out to them and submit your proposal. If they agree, then you can continue with your desired numbers. However, chances are there that they won't agree.
