A debt collector has been calling me and trying to collect an outstanding balance from a person who carries my name and surname. How can I stop them from calling me repeatedly? I was just wondering how did they get my phone number when my number is not associated with the account on which they are trying to collect.

Try to make the collection agent understand that he has reached out to the wrong person. If the calls continue, you can sent the collector a cease and desist letter. After getting the letter, the collector can only contact you one time more to let you know that he is taking legal steps against you. In that case, consult a lawyer who practices consumer laws to take necessary steps under the fdcpa.
