can collection agency sue me for old debt with SS as my only income?

I checked my reports after a long time and saw a judgement for an old debt. I didn't even know about the lawsuit or the judgment. Am totally dependent on SSI at the moment, and can't even ask for settlement. How can they collect for the judgement?
