I’m 18 and really wish to build some credit now. I have no clue how to approach. Moreover, I had undergone some surgery so right now I’m unable to work. I get $800 each month from SSDI as my father has some physical deformity. This will end by September and at that time, I won’t have any job. So what will I be doing with my credit card? I’ll not be getting any money to use that. Can I just cancel a card because I don’t owe anything on it? Would it hurt my credit?

Choose such a card that doesn't charge an annual fee. With this, you'll be able to maintain even zero balance for an indefinite period. Approach some of the top-notch credit card issuers - Chase Bank, American Express, Citi Bank, BOA, etc. However, make sure you read the terms & conditions carefully before borrowing one. Never buy such an item that you can't afford.
