4 Ingenious tips to celebrate Women’s Equality Day
“Gender equality is not a woman’s issue. It’s a human issue. It affects us all”

Women’s Equality Day is celebrated on August 26 to commemorate the 19th Amendment which granted women the right to vote. The momentous day in the history is celebrated every year since the 19th amendment empowered women to voice their opinion for the first time in American history.

There are lots of ways to celebrate Women’s Equality Day. For instance, you can be active on the issues that women face like:

  • Inequality in payscale
  • Lack of educational opportunities
  • Chance to work in technical fields
  • Opportunity to take leadership roles

Personally, I don’t believe in organizing big events for celebrating Women’s Equality Day. There are are several small things you can do to celebrate this special day. Here are a few of them.

1. Empower women:

“Empowering women isn’t just the right thing to do - it’s the smart thing to do”

Do you have a sister at home? Encourage her to complete higher studies before taking a kid or getting married. Encourage her to be self-dependent. Ask her to do a part-time job so that she can understand the value of money. Once she finishes her studies, encourage her to get a full-time job before walking down the aisle.

2. Share responsibilities:

“Sharing is caring. Women will only have true equality when men share with them the responsibility of bringing up the next generation”

Usually, the core responsibility of bringing up children lies on women. I feel that’s wrong. Both mother and father should share equal responsibility. On this Women’s Equality Day, tell your spouse that you’ll prepare dinner for your kids. Take your kids to park on the weekends. Fix doctor appointments and teach a few subjects to your kids. Believe me, this will be the greatest gift for your wife this year.

3. Share safety tips:

“Safety is a cheap and effective insurance policy”

Safety is important. It’s impossible to protect your daughter, girlfriend, wife, sister, mother, friend, etc. from the onslaughts of men all the time. Teach safety tips to women so that they can safeguard themselves all the time. This is perhaps the greatest gift you can give to a woman on this Women’s Equality Day. For instance, my dad always advises me to be aware of my surroundings when I’m walking alone. The other tip he gave me is also an effective one. The tip is to attack where it hurts most. He told me, “baby if someone attacks you, aim for body parts on your attacker that are soft and vulnerable”. If you know many other tips, share with the women you care. Sharing is caring.

4. Make women feel special:

“An act of care doesn’t cost a fortune. But it can bring a beautiful smile"

It doesn’t cost a fortune to create a family video. Does it? Just take your iPhone and capture some beautiful moments spent with your mom, wife, daughter, sister, grandmother, etc. Give an emotional touch to the video. Once you have created the video, share it with the lovely ladies. Sometimes, women need to be reminded of their importance in your life. Save the video properly so that you or anyone else can check the video later.

Conclusion

Men and women are the 2 wings of a bird. Society can’t progress unless the condition of women is improved. It’s impossible for a bird to fly in the sky on one wing. Time has come when women should be treated as equal everywhere. Only then it will be possible to develop a progressive society.
