This is perhaps the best way to avoid the problem.

Since last week a debt collection agency has started calling me for a debt that was discharged long ago. Though I told them, they are threatening to sue me. They have even called at my workplace twice! Please let me know how can I handle this?

If you are certain about it, stop receiving those calls. This is perhaps the best way to avoid the problem. However, if they send you a threatening mail to sue you, just tell them to reach your attorney as he is supposed to take over your case.

If you have any doubt regarding the debt, ask the collection agency to provide you with a debt validation letter (though they must send this within 5 days after their initial calling). If they don't send this, know it's a scam entity harassing you. In such a situation, consult a debt settlement attorney.
