If you get Social Security Disability are you still obligated to pay your old debt

I totally agree with Abbie's post. However, it would also depend on how old the debts are.

Yes, you're absolutely obligated to pay your debts. Doesn't matter if you're on social security or not. But if that's the only income you have without any other significant assets, the creditors might not be able to extract anything from you, since the social security benefits are protected and can't be garnished. The federal government is an exception to this rule though, i.e. they can hold back the benefits in certain cases.
