Creditors are not legally bound to inform you before they file the lawsuit.

Had been trying to settle debts with creditor and then I get the legal notice. Aren't they supposed to tell me before they file the lawsuit? How long till the wage garnishment starts?

No, they're not legally bound to inform you before they file the lawsuit.

And wage garnishment will only be in effect if they successfully get a judgement for that.

You can still try your luck with out-of-court settlement.
