Many debt collectors may send letters with no stamped postal information. They may never send you certified mail, so that you have no way of knowing when the 30-day period begins. Fortunately, for the debtor, the debt collector cannot prove when the 30-day period began. However, you can validate your debt even after the 30-day period has passed.

Even if the initial 30 days have passed, the FDCPA gives you the right to dispute the debt, and request verification.

However, if you ask for debt verification, you will either receive something, or you won't. If you receive something that you don't think to be valid, then you can send a letter to the CRA's asking for another dispute with your DV letter and green cards as new proof.
