I had some outstanding medical bills from long time back. Though the amount is too less, say around $600, the creditor has filed a lawsuit asking for that. Can they do that?

Yes, evidently they can. It doesn’t matter how much you owe. You are supposed to pay even if it’s “too less”.

Try to negotiate and pay out of court, since the expenses are going to increase considering the cost of suing, attorney fees and all.
