In 2003, I took out an unsecured loan. They took me to court as I couldn’t pay off the amount, won a judgment, and garnished around $1500 of the $3200 outstanding before I lost my job and they didn’t have anything from me since 2005. After 7 years, they have sent a sheriff out to my old place of residence to take my only car, which is a 2002 model that I have paid off and is absolutely lien free. Is this legal?

Doesn’t matter whether or not you had the car at the time of judgment of not, they can take your assets when they execute. However, you should find out if they have renewed the judgment. Judgments are there for only five years unless renewed.
