I'm screwed up with a great number of credit card debts, and one of them has filed a lawsuit. Am waiting for the hearing day. Could bankruptcy filing prevent the lawsuit even after a summons was issued?

Well, that was for sure! An automatic stay works just like a chain, and restrains your creditors from collecting anything from you. An automatic stay, would protect you until they receive a discharge from their debts. However, even though filing Chapter 7 won't discharge a debt, Chapter 13 might help manage the issue.
Yes Eric, I'm pretty sure it’d. In fact, you could prevent any lawsuit by filing bankruptcy. It is because the moment you file for bankruptcy, an automatic stay immediately prevents all debt collection attempts.
