I'm not in a position to afford a lawyer and that's why I am looking into a bankruptcy service to prepare all documents. I'm really confused and don't know the route to take.

In some communities, there are "petition preparers" who often provide legal advice though they are not allowed to provide such advice. If they do, they are practising law without any authority. These days, many attorneys work with financially downtrodden people and only accept a fee after the petition is actually prepared and ready to be filed. So shop around for such an attorney.
